Responsibilities

• Operate directional drilling machinery with skill, ensuring accurate underground utility installation according to project specifications
• Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on drilling equipment to guarantee optimal performance and safety standards
• Collaborate closely with project managers, site supervisors, and other heavy equipment operators to coordinate tasks seamlessly
• Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to OSHA regulations
• Assist in setting up job sites by preparing the area, including the use of excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, water trucks, graders, dump trucks, tankers, and paving equipment as needed
• Monitor drilling progress using technical controls and make adjustments to maintain alignment and depth accuracy
• Maintain detailed records of daily operations, including equipment usage logs and safety checklists

Skills

• Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy construction equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, tankers, paving machines, and horizontal drilling rigs
• Proven experience operating horizontal directional drills or similar underground utility installation machinery
• Valid commercial driver’s license
• Construction site experience with familiarity in excavation practices and underground utility installation processes
• Ability to operate equipment confidently and safely
• Knowledge of construction safety standards and best practices for operating heavy machinery on active sites
• Skilled in communication and teamwork to coordinate effectively across diverse construction teams
