Summary

Job Title: Guidance Counselor

Job Type: Full-time

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Guidance Counselor to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting student growth, academic success, and career development. As a Guidance Counselor, you will be responsible for creating and managing the counseling program, assisting students in personal, social, and academic development, and collaborating with school staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure students’ needs are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Master Schedule Creation & Student Scheduling: Design and implement a master schedule for students, ensuring optimal course placements that align with academic and graduation requirements.
  • State-Mandated Testing: Oversee the administration and coordination of state-required testing, ensuring proper procedures are followed and that all students are prepared and supported.
  • School Counseling Program Development: Establish, develop, and implement the school counseling program, including the creation of related activities, workshops, and resources to support the social, emotional, and academic well-being of students.
  • Personal/Social Growth & Educational Planning: Provide individual and group counseling sessions to address students’ personal, social, and academic concerns. Support students in planning for their future, including course selection and career goals.
  • Collaboration & Consultation: Work closely with students, parents, teachers, and other school personnel to address student needs. Engage with external social service agencies when necessary to provide additional support.
  • College Coordination: Coordinate all necessary duties regarding the College Credit Plus program, including working with college admissions and financial aid departments, hosting informational sessions for parents and students, and guiding students through the financial aid application process. Monitor student progress to ensure they meet college entrance requirements.
  • Career Center Transitioning: Assist students in transitioning to the career center, helping them identify and pursue career-focused pathways and opportunities.
  • Diversity & Inclusion: Foster an inclusive, supportive environment for students from diverse backgrounds, ensuring equitable access to counseling services for all students.

Experience

Qualifications:

  • Certification/Licensure: Must hold a valid Ohio Guidance Counselor License or certification as required by the Ohio Department of Education.
  • Experience: Experience in the following areas is highly recommended:
    • Developing and managing master schedules
    • Administering state-mandated testing
    • Establishing and implementing school counseling programs
    • Counseling students in personal/social and educational planning
    • Collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders (students, parents, staff, outside agencies)
    • Managing college credit plus, admissions, and financial aid processes
    • Assisting students in transitioning to career centers
  • Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
