Metal Fabricator (Welder)

Summary

Job Summary:

A Metal Fabricator is a skilled tradesperson who specializes in creating and assembling metal structures, components, and products. They work with various types of metals, such as steel, aluminum, and stainless steel, to fabricate parts used in a wide range of industries. Metal Fabricators use a variety of tools and techniques to cut, shape, bend, and join metal materials to create finished products according to specifications and drawings.

Responsibilities:

Interpretation of Blueprints and Specifications:

Study and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine the dimensions, shapes, and tolerances required for the project.

Metal Cutting and Shaping:

Use cutting tools such as saws, lasers, plasma cutters, and shears to cut metal sheets or bars to the required sizes and shapes. Operate press brakes, rollers, and other machinery to shape metal components, creating bends, curves, and angles as needed.

Welding and Joining:

Utilize welding techniques (MIG, TIG, arc welding) to join metal pieces together, ensuring strong and precise welds.

Employ fastening methods such as riveting, bolting, and soldering to assemble parts.

Precision Measurement:

Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify dimensions and ensure accuracy during fabrication.

Experience

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent (technical or vocational training preferred).

Proven experience as a Metal Fabricator or similar role.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.

Skilled in using various metalworking tools, including cutting, shaping, and welding equipment.

Knowledge of different metal types and their properties.

Strong mathematical skills and precision measurement abilities.

Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials and operate machinery.

Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

Understanding of safety protocols and the ability to follow them diligently.

Welding certifications (such as AWS certification) may be required, depending on the specific role and industry.
